ASC Design-Build Competition
Ram Design Build
Our team from Farmingdale State College participated in the 33rd Annual Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 1 Student Competition⁴⁵ in November 2022 and won 2nd place for our design-build proposal¹. The team organization modeled a design-build firm with a general manager/design manager, project manager, safety manager, structural design consultant, and cost estimating consultant.

Competition Background
The goal of the competition was to utilize skills and knowledge acquired in college instruction in construction, design, and project management to develop a design-build proposal for a 55,000 SF rail maintenance facility. Skanska (an international construction firm) was the project competition sponsor⁴.
We applied our learning from various courses such as architectural design, heavy-civil construction,
pre-construction, estimating, scheduling, safety, and sustainability to create a comprehensive and
competitive proposal that met the client's requirements and expectations. We also demonstrated
our ability to work collaboratively as a team under time pressure and present our proposal
effectively to a panel of judges from the industry.
Research Presentation
